Message from the Dean

prof. Zdzislaw Mach

Dear PhD students,

I would like to welcome you cordially at the Faculty of International and Political Studies. I am glad that you have put your trust and confidence in us and decided to pursue your PhD degree here. We will do everything not to betray your trust – we shall try to offer you an interesting programme of study, best supervisors and friendly atmosphere. I would like your studies to prepare you for a successful career on Polish, European and global job markets, but also give you general knowledge that will help you respond quickly and in a creative way to the challenges of a changing world in the future.

It is of particular concern to me that you master at our Faculty the most important intellectual skills, such as: independent thinking, critical attitude to information, broad-mindedness, tolerance, the will to communicate or the ability to solve problems independently and in a creative way. I would like you to learn to be independent, but also to cooperate. In order to achieve this, we are going to perfect our programmes of study, but we would also like to invite you to cooperate by participating in Student Academic Societies. We will help you to understand the world better, to study the dynamics of international politics, social and cultural processes, learn about their theoretical aspects but also gain the skills that will allow you to put this knowledge into practice.

I hope that we will manage to prove that studying global social, political and cultural processes is worthwhile and that this knowledge is not only interesting but also practical. I would like you to use the time you are going to spend in Kraków and at our University to pursue your interests, have fun, meet new people and make friends. This should give you invaluable experience for the rest of your life. We are looking forward to hearing from you, do not hesitate and share your views on any topics connected with the functioning of the Faculty – we will take your opinions into consideration, those critical ones as well. Take advantage of the things that the University and the Faculty have to offer and work together with us to make this Faculty even better, to make us proud of it. You are members of our academic community, make your presence felt!
